A message from the Managing Director

It’s been a very busy few months since the launch of PHMATTERS, our new quarterly e-newsletter and I’m delighted that PierceHill continues to flourish.

In this second issue, we feature a selection of high profile fit-out and refurbishment projects in the capital involving a full range of quantity surveying and cost management services for some very prestigious clients.

We have received some excellent feedback since the launch of our new website www.piercehill.com where you’ll find details of our teams in London and Sevenoaks. Why not drop us a line?

Thanks for your interest which is much appreciated.

Stephen Tandy
Managing Director

Amnesty celebrates next generation of offices

Film, television and stage actor Patrick Stewart OBE, most famous for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard (pictured right) in Star Trek: The Next Generation, was Amnesty International’s special guest at the official opening of the non-governmental organisation’s newly refurbished offices at Easton Street in the City of London.

PierceHill representatives Stephen Tandy and Stewart Dorey were amongst more than 2,500 guests who gathered at a magnificent reception to celebrate the opening of the International Secretariat’s headquarters.

Designed by Artillery Architecture and Interior Design, the refurbishment and fit-out project was originally let as a single-stage, traditional contract on bills of quantities. Maintaining a full-time presence on site, PierceHill was instrumental in successfully delivering the project after the original contractor went into receivership during the refurbishment programme.

PierceHill trusted to administer fast-track fit-out

PierceHill was appointed as contract administrator and quantity surveyor for the ‘fast-track’ refurbishment of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts’ headquarters office on the 1st floor of Allington House in Victoria Street, London – a project that was completed in just six weeks!

The fit out of the client’s office space was performed by refurbishment specialists, Overbury.

The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts are a suite of 19 different trusts that share the same office premises at 150 Victoria Street. The trusts include The Linbury Trust, The Headley Trust and The Ashden Trust, a charity focused on climate change.

Exclusive redevelopment underway in Belgravia

Privately-owned development and investment company O&H Properties has appointed PierceHill to provide quantity surveying services for the prestigious re-development of Lygon Place in Belgravia, one of London's most exclusive residential districts.

The £25 million project, which will run over a two year period, involves the complete refurbishment of eight Grade II listed terraced houses and three mews houses with extensions at basement and roof levels. A new underground car park will be provided for 15 cars beneath the existing rear gardens.

New development schemes for long-standing client

PierceHill is working on two new development schemes in Central London for long-standing client, GMS Estates.

As project coordinator and cost consultant, we are performing a detailed feasibility study for a £20m mixed-use redevelopment scheme in Bayswater, working with LCE Architects and Arup.

A £7m office redevelopment with listed frontage is underway in Covent Garden. Designed by Tectus Architecture, PierceHill is providing cost consultancy services in association with Price & Myers and Arup who make up the consultant team. Work is scheduled to start on site in 2008.

Roy moves on to retirement

After a long and distinguished career spanning 50 years as a quantity surveyor, Roy Wood retired from the practice on 1 April 2007. Having previously been sole principal and later senior partner at Cooper & Wood, Roy became a director of PierceHill following the merger with Cooper & Wood in April 2003.

Throughout his career Roy displayed huge enthusiasm and professionalism, allowing him to forge many long-standing relationships with clients and fellow consultants. We are sure that all who worked with Roy will join us in wishing him all the very best for the future.

Bryan joins PH and gets plastered!

Senior quantity surveyor Bryan Barker has joined PierceHill’s Sevenoaks office having returned to the UK following a three-year assignment in the USA. However, within days of joining the practice, Bryan ended up getting plastered – from his groin to his foot! The short walk from Sevenoaks railway station to the office turned into a nightmare for Bryan as he was involved in an accident with a car that resulted in a fractured tibia and a lengthy recuperation period at home. We all wish Bryan a speedy recovery!
