PH Matters issue no 5 – December 2008
A message from the Managing Director
Welcome to our December issue of PH Matters. This issue finds our industry facing a period of uncertainty as the wider effects of the Credit Crunch take their toll. At PierceHill we have noticed the impact across many sectors but equally have found other sectors such as education and health remain strong and where we have enjoyed a good deal of success in recent months. Uncertain times call for solid, reliable and professional advice and we look forward to assisting our many clients, consultant colleagues and contracting friends to steer their projects successfully through this current period.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue.
Finally, in common with many people, PierceHill has chosen not to send Christmas cards this year but to make a charitable donation instead. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of everyone at PierceHill to thank you for your support this past year and to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and Prosperous New Year
Stephen Tandy

Developing the business by developing ourselves At Piercehill we have successfully renewed our Investor in People status.
The IiP standard encourages organisations to look at their Training and Development processes more strategically.
Andy Pilcher summarises the benefits of renewing IiP status to PierceHill.
“We find that the structure of achieving IiP status has brought with it a greater sense of recognition and job satisfaction among our team. We communicate more frequently about training and development issues and how they link to the business needs. Consequently, the supportive work environment has led to improved skills, responsibilities and involvement across all staff members. Our career development programme has become more focused helping us to ensure greater continuity for PierceHill and our clients.”

Schools update
In previous issues of PH Matters you may have seen articles relating to a number of education projects.
Cumnor House School Theatre designed by Marcus Beale Architects and built by Baker Construction is now completed. The Bursar Mark Dickens comments – “we were enormously impressed with David Heil and PierceHill's work in the construction of our new theatre. The completed building is stunning and in full use – thanks to Dave's diligence and hard work controlling costs – we were delighted to come out on budget.”
St John's School first phase is now on site following the successful negotiation of a fixed price with John O'Neill and Partners adopting their ‘Roundtable' approach to construction with completion on course ready for the 2009-10 school year.
